Microscopist - Asbestos and Mold

Microscopist Job description
The successful candidate will enjoy using multiple microscopes (PCM, PLM and TEM) to analyze air and material samples for asbestos in accordance with NIOSH/OSHA Methods and NYS DOH ELAP criteria. Analysis of air and surface samples for fungal spores using light microscopes in accordance with standard methodologies while participating in the AIHA EMPAT program will also be conducted.
1 - 3 years experience in a similar laboratory setting and successful completion of NIOSH 582 Sampling and Evaluating Airborne Asbestos Fibers Courses is desired. A BS degree in Geology, Microbiology or a related field is very helpful.
Excellent organizational skills are essential. Flexibility regarding work hours is necessary to accommodate client needs. May also perform administrative functions including, but not limited to, sample log-in, report generation, client billing, care and maintenance of equipment and QA/QC tasks. Experience with Microsoft Excel is very helpful. Must be able to follow quality control/assurance procedures and safety requirements while consistently meeting or exceeding customer required turnaround time. Ability to collaborate with laboratory staff at multiple locations is key.

Project Manager Job description
Provide HSE Consulting Services with leadership and technical expertise as an Environmental Health and Safety Project Manager in the disciplines of Occupational Health and Safety on environmental remediation projects and construction, and industrial hygiene including asbestos, LBP, and mold.
This position is responsible for providing a focused disciplined approach in order to provide the highest standard of quality in the industry. Services provided shall meet or exceed client expectations and be completed within budget and on time as defined by the project proposal and client needs.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
- Project Management
- Observe field operations - evaluate and promote safe and healthy work practices.
- Conduct or manage exposure monitoring and community air monitoring
- Correspond with clients for project administration details.
- Monitor projects through completion.
- Maintain complete and accurate project information / files through close-out. Project files shall be neat, orderly, and contain essential information with no non-essential redundancy.
- Formulate recommendations consistent with regulatory requirements, good occupational health and safety principles and the needs of the client.
- Present well written technical reports showing in-depth understanding and technical expertise and identification of client actions needed to health risks and hazards.
- Use and maintain sampling instrumentation and equipment.
- Work with clients and co-workers to identify, evaluate and resolve issues related to the work being performed.
- May perform other duties as assigned. Technical / Administration:
- Apply basic principles of industrial hygiene including the recognition, evaluation and control of workplace stressors.
- Conduct IH surveys (air contaminants, noise, etc.)
- Provide Safety Support Services (Audits, Written Programs, Training, Oversight of projects, etc.)
- Be a leader for HSE on safety and health oversight of construction and environmental remediation projects, asbestos, LBP, mold assessments and remediation.
- Develop (mentor, coach) entry level staff as needed.
- Conduct or supervise, IH sample collection, mold assessment and remediation oversight, asbestos surveys and project monitoring, lead based paint inspection, assessment and abatement oversight, H&S oversight on environmental remediation projects and construction projects.
- Check accuracy of work related to Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Asbestos, Lead and Mold for self and others.
- Provide quality assurance and control of project tasks and deliverables.
- Apply strong organization and project management skills to ensure the highest level of service to HSE’s clients and to maintain/modify HSE’s direction, focus and purpose.
- Be able to describe the basic services provided by HSE to potential clients.
Basic Requirements:
- Associates Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or related degree.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience performing and managing IH/Safety services in the Consulting Field.
- Sound and diversified knowledge of Asbestos, Lead and Mold and related fields with the ability to practice in broad areas of assignments.
- Carry out complex or unusual assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
- Must demonstrate ability to operate with minimal technical supervision.
- Must be a self-starter and show initiative and have the ability to work independently.
- Make decisions independently on problems and methods.
- Demonstrate flexibility, a team-oriented focus, and strong problem solving/analytical skills.
- Good technical writing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to use MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Windows, Explorer and complete electronic file creation and organization and computer search functions.
- Thorough understanding of NY State and Federal regulations pertaining to asbestos, lead based paint and mold.
- Professional Development and Training: Stay abreast of federal, state and local occupational safety and health regulations, current trends, changes, new ideas, equipment, growth opportunities via information assimilated from trade journals, technical literature, research papers and other sources.
